Make Your Nokia 5800 Act as Webcam with Smartcam
On the other day, my friend was telling me about an application that makes his blackberry mobile's camera act as webcam. Here is a similar application "SmartCam V1.3 V1.4" for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Now you can use your mobile as a webcam for your PC.
There are two ways (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) to connect to pc.
You can download the files from here. Simply unzip the files on your pc. There is one .exe file and one .sis file. Run the .exe file on your pc and then run .sis file on your mobile.
Bluetooth:
Now connect your mobile from pc using Bluetooth as shown in the above image. Make sure your Bluetooth is on. Just do the pairing of your mobile and pc and start using your mobile as webcam.
Wi-Fi:
You can initiate the Wi-Fi connection from pc in case you don't have Bluetooth on your pc. Open the installed Smartcam application on your pc and then go to File -> Settings -> Connection -> TCP/IP (Wifi) and make sure the settings for Port is Port:9361
Now start the SmartCam application on your mobile phone and go to Options -> Connect -> TCP/IP (Wi-Fi). It will prompt for Server Name. Fill the IP address of your pc (Use ipconfig command on command prompt to know your IP address). Now the application will prompt you to connect to the Internet, choose Wi-Fi to connect to the internet.

Hi thanks a lot for this piece of software. It works for me but I am getting completely scrambled image when i use this piece of software on msn. otherside user cannot see me because image is totally scrambled, but i can view perfectly on smartcam software itself.... any ideas????

What it says-
It seems to work only if you use the Microsoft Windows XP build in
drivers. It wasn't easy for me to set up because I had already installed
the third party drivers, but after removing them and looking for
troublesome registry keys I got it working according to the tutorial

If you are getting this error. try changing the date of your cell to little earlier and you will be able to install it.

If you got "discovery error - 25" make sure you have installed the SmartCam both in your Laptop / PC and Mobile. For computers double click. Exe file to download and. Sis file for symbian mobiles. After installing to your Computer and Mobile, in your computer open the SmartCam application, Click on File, select Settings, and click Bluetooth then press OK.
Don't close your SmartCam in computer, now go to your mobile and open the SmartCam, click on Options, select Connect then click Bluetooth.
Search your computer's Bluetooth name by clicking More Devices then click to connect.
I had the same problem in my Nokia 5800 but it's working now!

У меня внешний Bluetooth адаптер и Nokia 5800, и всё работает! Но для связи между Bluetooth и 5800 нужны определённые драйвера для Bluetooth адаптера!
Для этого:
1. Устанавливаете на своем ПК "Nokia PC Suite";
2. С помощью PC Suite подключаете свой 5800 к ПК через Bluetooth.
Во время подключения PC Suite устанавливает все нужные драйвера для Bluetooth. После этого SmartCam должен работать бес проблем !!! Пользуйтесь и радуйтесь своей новой вебкамерой )))

Just english translation of what Mr. Andersen was trying to say-
I have an external Bluetooth adapter and Nokia 5800 and everything works! But for communication between Bluetooth and 5800 need some drivers for the Bluetooth adapter!
To do this:
1. Install on your computer "Nokia PC Suite";
2. Using PC Suite to connect their 5800 to a PC via Bluetooth.
While connecting PC Suite installs all necessary drivers for Bluetooth. After this SmartCam should work demon problems! Use and enjoy their new webcam)))

Few minutes ago I asked about the error "could not connect, connection timed out" it happens when connecting via wi-fi. But now my problem is solved. And I just saw many people asked the same question. So, the solution is : before trying to connect via wi-fi, go in your handset to menu> setting> connectivity> wireless Lan> here you manually connect your handset with wi-fi. Then go try to connect smartcam. It will work.

okey i figured out the -25 error thing, it happens because most of us use propietary blutooth stack but this program only works with windows own bluetooth stack. to get it working you need to do two things,
1. configure your windows bluetooth stack to use your bluetooth device, for that add a line for your bluetooth adapter in c:\windows\inf\bth.inf under the device section. important part is the USB\vid line, you need to get the hardware id from your device manager, you can find it under details tab in device properties window, just select hardware ids and the USB\Vid is just there. modify the bth.inf file and save
2. turn off your bt device(unplug is its a usb device or turn off from the button) then go to add/remove programs in your control panel and find your propietary bluetooth stack, uninstall it. once you turn the bt device back on windows will install its own bluetooth stack to use the device and your webcam will work fine
this solution sort of assumes you know what you are doing, if you really dont then find someone more knowledgeable to do it for you

I tried it on NOKIA 5235, the video size does not change from 320x240 (although there is option in sis app, and capacity of phone camera is 640x352). Even on this resolution, the frame rate is very bad (never goes above 12-13fps, phone camera supports 30fps) and the video transmitted to laptop gets hanged and stuck for a few minutes until it resumes by itself (although it appears to be smooth on mobile app).
