A new version 1.1.7 of very popular Skype mobile client for Symbian is now available with new features and improvements over the existing one. It's been a one year of Skype support on Symbian devices. Last year, they released very first version of their mobile client for Symbian users.

 
Taking forward to that, they are now trying to improve upon user experience, better communication and support to Sony Ericsson Satio, Vivaz and Vivaz pro devices. If you tried using earlier version of Skype which was available only for few selected countries, you will notice a huge difference in both the interface and usability. This new version of Skype works in all countries. All you need is mobile internet. Enjoy free calls and instant messages to anyone who has skype too. and now global rates to mobiles and landlines, at home or abroad.

 
The major improvement as stated in Official announcement from Skype is that they have improved Skype's login time and responsivness and also reduced battery consumption up to 20%. As said earlier, there is a big overhaul, you'll see changes in - account panel, some keys assignements, settings panel. They also introduced few new options  for controlling notifications, using your mobile phone number as outgoing SMS sender and setting default file receiving locations on device.

 
Along with bug fixes, there are new features supported in this version. These new features are-
  • Signing time is reduced, there is improved performance during signing in.
  • Power usage reduction up to 20%
  • Overhauled the user interface to make it more userfriendly.
  • There is an added support for showing your phone number as SMS sender.
  • Added option to choose time frame for remembering history on the device.
  • Added option for setting default file receiving location.
  • Skype now stores your prefered connection option.
  • Added option to turn Audio/ Vibration notification on and off (Vibration notification respects phone profile settings.)
  • Added support for showing flags in Instant Messaging window for touchscreen devices.
 
There is wonderful experience of using Skype on mobiles. Skype works great and has full support on following Symbian S60 5th mobile devices: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, Nokia X6, Nokia 5230, Sony Ericsson Satio, Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Sony Ericsson Vivaz PRO.
